ENVISIONing My Future

Donation protected
I’m Abby. I’m 13 years old and in 7th grade at a charter school in North Carolina. My parents are Marcia and Greg. I’m raising money for a unique STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program called the 2019 National Youth Leadership Forum: Explore STEM. Details on the program can be found at: http://www.envisionexperience.com/explore-our-programs/national-youth-leadership-forum-explore-stem.

This amazing opportunity means so much to me because I think that it will really help me grow as a person. This is a great way for me to pursue my passion for math, engineering, and technology. I also think that this program would look very good on a college application in the future. I’m not exactly sure yet what I want to do for a career, but I already know it will something in a STEM field, particularly math. I can’t imagine being this excited about doing anything else.

I was nominated to represent my school and community at this special Envision program by my 6th grade math teacher, Ms. Copley. I am extremely honored by the nomination and really hope that I will be able to attend the program. I was nominated because I’m a highly motivated student, and because I work very hard, I get good grades. I’m currently taking an online course in Math I, and managed to finish 8th grade math in less than a semester.

Within the Envision program, there are multiple different locations where students can choose to go. I want to go to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem for the program. I would go further, but most people who know me know that my stomach doesn’t enjoy travel. I’m really excited about this Envision program because I think that it will give me some real-world experience, beyond general school experience. (Let’s face it, much of what I learn in school is not truly going to help me later in life.)

In the Envision program, I would get to spend a week with other middle schoolers from all over the country and world, who are also geared more toward math and science – and may even become my future colleagues.

I will have lots of “real world” experiences that will help me explore possible options for future careers:
·       Meeting and getting a lecture from a NASA astronaut
·       Learning about and creating solutions for the challenges of colonizing Mars
·       Learning important skills for high school/college
·       Participating in the following hands-on field experiences:
Robotics simulation/engineering design challenge
Public health threat simulation (medical skills in action)
Examining the ethical frontiers of 21st century science

This is a really cool program, and I’m so excited to have an opportunity to be part of it!

Imagine if you had been given this opportunity for a life-changing experience when you were in school and were unable to participate for lack of funds. That’s why I’m hoping you can help.

My participation in the program depends on my ability to raise an additional $2,540 from friends and family. The total cost of the program (including tuition, food, shared living space in a dorm, transportation, and professional clothing) comes out to $3,140. I have already received $500, from my mom and dad, and will contribute $100 of my own personal money. After that, I still need $2,540.

The deadline for all the money for the program is April 30th. I would be so unbelievably thankful if you could help me achieve my goal of raising the money I need to be able to attend this program. It would mean so much to me if you could help me make my dream a reality.

Thank you for your help!
