EMT Volunteering in Ghana and Nepal

Donation protected
Greetings,

My name is Evan Oró, and I am an 18-year old EMT from New Mexico. Growing up, my instinct to want to help others was nurtured by outreach opportunities provided by my community and school, and I discovered that helping the less fortunate was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. During my last year of high school I became a Nationally Certified EMT Basic, and when I graduated in June 2017, I decided I wanted to spend a year using my skills to improve the lives of others before starting college. I’m now in the process of turning my dreams into reality.

On September 10th I leave for Ghana for three months as an EMT volunteer with Medics Without Borders. In the Spring, I will volunteer as an EMT again for three months, this time at a hospital in Nepal with a program called A Broader View.

Medics Without Borders is a non-profit NGO based in Kumasi. Their mission is to provide comprehensive health education, preventive medicine, counseling services and emergency medical technology services for people in underserved communities in Ghana. As an EMT I will focus on patient care and assessment, public health education, and working with EMS professionals on trauma cases at Kumasi’s Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. In Nepal, I will rotate through departments in Katmandu Orthopedic Hospital, where the most common cases and surgeries involve general trauma, pediatric club foot, spinal issues, and arthroscopy.

Between the medical volunteer programs in Ghana and Nepal, I will travel in Southern Africa, Southeast Asia, and India to experience first hand the real trials and triumphs of our planet. You can share my adventures with me by visiting my website. From there you can subscribe to my Youtube, Instagram and my email news letter. I will also post updates on this page. When I return, I will attend the University of Utah where I will study medicine to continue to improve my skills to help others.

I am asking for your help, to help me help those who need it most and to improve medical care for the underprivileged in Kumasi and Katmandu FIFTY PERCENT OF YOUR DONATION WILL GO DIRECTLY TO SUPPORTING THE FACILITIES IN GHANA AND NEPAL, AND GET THEM THE MEDICAL SUPPLIES THEY NEED. The remainder will help offset my living expenses while I am serving in those countries

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Please consider donating. Your contribution means everything to me. This humanitarian mission is a life long dream come true, and I cannot wait to help those who need it with your help. As an alternative to donating, you can always view my online print shop where I sell a variety of photograph prints. 5% of all print profits will be donated to the organizations in Ghana and Nepal.

Thank you again,
Evan
