Empower Aziz Moqbel's Future in Aviation

My name is Aziz Moqbel. My friend, Barbara Ryan, is setting up this GoFundMe to help with my tuition. She runs the refugee free store Rogers Park here in Chicago and has been very instrumental in helping the SIVs and Afghan refugees

SunEx has a special program for former Afghan military pilots. They want to help us get licenses here to start careers. Once I complete the required flights at this flight school, I will have my commercial pilots license and be able to apply for jobs as a pilot. I have already completed ground school and because I already have many eligible flight hours in Afghanistan this will only take me a few weeks to complete. I planned to go in October but it is $20,000 to $25,000 to pay for the flight hours and check ride.

I was a Blackhawk helicopter pilot in the Afghan Army and a Captain working alongside and trained by the U.S. military. I was evacuated in 2021 and have received asylum in the United States. Since arriving here, I have received a lot of support from the government and generous Americans like Barbara helping us to resettle in the United States. It has been difficult going from being a respected military pilot to feeling like I cannot use my skills in America. For the past couple years I have been working alongside pro bono immigration attorneys as an Outreach Coordinator and Interpreter for National Immigrant Justice Center to help other Afghans receive legal assistance. I greatly enjoy this but our project will come to an end soon and my dream is to be a pilot here in America. I will be applying for my green card soon and look forward to one day becoming a U.S. citizen. Becoming a pilot in America would make me feel I am able to build my life here and help me feel like myself again. I am working to save the money myself for this flight school, but I would greatly appreciate any assistance you could provide in helping me achieve my dream!
