Employ Black Youth in the Greater Toronto Area

Donation protected
The Hungry Gyal is a black-owned take-out/catering "restaurant" based in Mississauga, Ontario founded by myself, Dahlia (DJ Rosegold) Palmer in May of 2020.

Since opening, The Hungry Gyal has received a gracious outpour of support from The community within the Greater Toronto Area and the ultimate vision is to keep The

Hungry Gyal running whilst creating avenues to better serve our Black community right here in Toronto. We are honored to share that at the moment, a percentage of proceeds from all meals sold are donated  to Afri-Can Food Basket, an organization in Toronto providing food to Black families and individuals in need.

With The Hungry Gyal expanding rapidly, we would love to be able to extend our services from not only feeding our folks but employing Black boys and girls between the ages of 15-20 from the Greater Toronto Area. It is our hope that through this we will be able to give our youth the

experience of working and building leadership within a Black-owned, positive working environment that sees them as human, cares about their economic growth/safety whilst also teaching them about hospitality, food and customer service as a whole.

Being a fresh start-up comes with an influx of start-up costs and investments, at the moment we do not have sufficient funds to be able to provide wages that feel equitable and fair to these young boys and girls. It is for that reason that we are reaching out to our community for support to assist alongside us! This would provide the opportunity to expand and extend our family at The Hungry Gyal in a way that feels intentional and rooted in values that feel sustainable and impactful.

By donating, you will not only be helping The Hungry Gyal in becoming one of Toronto's newest Black-Woman owned franchises but more importantly, you will be providing wages to boys and girls from our own communities with an unforgettable work experience for the summer (and potentially beyond)!

Our goal is to employ as many youths as possible and teaching them various skills for the workplace including but not limited to:

- Social Media/Digital Marketing

- Digital Content Development

- Customer Service Skills

- Microsoft Excel skills

- Inventory and Stocking

- Control and Compliance Auditing

- Food Service Skills

+ more!

Our funding goal is set at $9,000CAD and if we reach this goal, we would successfully be able to employ 4-5 youth, 4 times a week for a maximum of 5hrs per day from July 2020 until August 2020. We hope that this funding allows us to bring in more revenue and in turn, be able to allow US, as a company to be able to provide their wages going forward! Our company promise is to keep a high level of integrity and thoughtfulness “till the wheels fall off” and thank you for trusting us with this task.

Another huge thank you in advance from our entire team.

We are so grateful to everyone who is able to donate and/or pass this link on to your friends, family or any organizations or individuals who you believe would be a good fit in supporting our cause.

We plan to provide updates via social media of progress achieved by each of the hired youth so please stay posted via IG/Twitter: thehungrygyal .

If you have any questions, recommendations or comments, feel free to reach out to me. directly. We would love to chat!
