Emergency Vet Care for Our Beloved Cat Emma

Dear Friends,

I am making this emergency appeal for help to pay the Vet bills for our 13-year-old cat, Emma, who is very sick. Emma is the soul of our home and my dear little girl. I can see the pain in her eyes and it breaks my heart when she looks at me believing I can make it go away.

Emma has lost interest in her food, hasn't used her litter box in several days and she’s not drinking water, which is serious. She normally loves to drink water, so that in itself is scary. She is obviously ill.

The Vet bill is already over $1,500. The Vet has warned us that treating Emma could run into the thousands of dollars. We can't afford to pay these climbing costs and stay afloat financially (that's another story).

We have been here before with our late kitty, Matka, whom we adopted with Emma. We are still paying off the debt for Matka’s treatment.

Emma is the center of our home. When she was well, she kept us positive in some very difficult times. She calms us, cares for us, and reminds us that love is all we need. She brings a warmth into our lives that we desperately need right now. Having her in our family gives us the strength to keep on keeping on.

Emma is not our "pet," she is family. We have come to understand the Hawaiian word, "kahu." which means "guardian of something precious." That is our role, and that is what theis GoFundMe is about.

Compounding this, my spouse Rob had a bad fall on October 15, was in the hospital, and is unable to work. We are both in our seventies, and produce a podcast that we have had to put on the back burner for now. Somehow, we have to stay afloat financially until we can work again.

With Emma getting worse, and with Rob out of commission, I admit I am scared, and overwhelmed by all this.

I have set the goal for GoFundMe high to be prepared for the cost of caring for Emma. We know from experience with Matka the Vet bill for that treatment can run into the thousands of dollars.
