Emergency Fire Relief for Busby Ohana

Aloha - My name is Christina Puakea Busby and I made this GoFundMe on behalf of my mother and father, Rose Busby (of Kalihi) and Kalae Busby (of Molokai).

On Sunday, September 10th, 2023, the apartment building where my parents lived in Waikiki (Honolulu, HI) caught fire. Within minutes, the entire building was engulfed in flames. They had only seconds to grab their dog and run out of the building, and within literal seconds, their apartment was destroyed. We are so thankful that they are alive and safe. Unfortunately, their next door neighbors did not survive. We are all so devastated and experiencing so many levels of grief.

As my family begins to pick up the pieces and move forward, we are asking all our loved ones and community to come together and help us. My parents will need to find a new place to live and will be starting over from nothing. There were so many precious things that were lost in the fire that are irreplaceable - photos, family heirlooms, the ashes of our dog Rudy, and so much more. In the mean time, your donation will help them find a new place to live as well as buy them clothes, beds, furniture, and all the other basic essentials.

My parents are such hardworking, loving people entering the elder years of their lives. It's so tragic and devastating that this has happened. Any amount of money is appreciated. We are just so thankful they are alive. Please share this fundraiser with others as well.

Mahalo nui to everyone who has donated and/or shared this fundraiser. We are deeply moved by the generosity shown to our family over the last few days by our loved ones, and others who my parents have never even met that have donated. We are so thankful for each and every one of you and don't know what we would do without you all. After some consideration, we have decided to increase our goal from $15,000 to $20,000. This extra funding will allow my parents to have some added security. They're both working class people who, like many others, live paycheck to paycheck, with virtually no savings in case of emergencies. Please help give my parents the security and peace of mind they deserve after working so hard their whole lives and losing so much in the fire.
