Hello Friends,
As many of you all already know, and to those who don’t, I have been offered a position as a Spring intern for the non-profit organization To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA for short) in Melbourne, FL this coming January. TWLOHA’s mission is to provide hope to the hopeless, and help to the seemingly helpless. Dealing day to day with beautiful people who are struggling with depression, addiction, and self-injury, their mission is to encourage and support recovery and treatment. Over the past few years TWLOHA has been nothing but a beacon of light for me, proving that I was not alone in my darkest times. Only recently have I been public about my battle with depression over the past few years. I know first hand how difficult it can be to reach out and open up to someone about how you’re feeling, but once you do it a weight is automatically lifted off of your shoulders. I want to be able to provide this feeling to others, and TWLOHA will give me the means to do so.
Spending three and a half months in an Intern House in Florida with five other interns may seem like a dream, but being a To Write Love On Her Arm’s intern also comes with a lot of responsibility. From answering e-mails coming in from all over the world, to planning events, to managing merchandise sales. Along with learning to balance daily work with the relationships of the other five interns. I believe it will be an ultimate test, but it’s a challenge I cannot wait to take on. Even being able to scratch the surface of such important topics, such as depression, will be rewarding enough. I can only hope during my time as an intern I will be able to create new friendships, reach personal goals, and ultimately gain important life experience.
This internship is completely unpaid, meaning I have to supply the funds to participate in such an amazing opportunity. Please consider partnering with me in this endeavor by supporting me financially over the three and a half months I will be away. Some ways to help are by giving one time gifts or ongoing, monthly pledges. You can give here or by personal check. My goal is to raise a maximum of $6000 to cover living costs (both in Florida and my rent in Kentucky), groceries, and recreational activities during my time in Melbourne, FL. This may seem like a large amount to raise in such a short time, but I wouldn’t want to be raising money for any cause other than this one, one that means so much to me, and hundreds of thousands of others. If I could simply get 30 people to donate $200 to this cause I would have enough money to support myself, while still maintaining my responsibilities back at home. I have always been passionate about helping and supporting others, and I believe this internship will be the push that I need to further expand that desire.
