Elimination of Violence Against Women - AFESIP

To celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women we decided to organize this fundraiser for our sisters at AFESIP Cambodia.
For our project weeks at LPCUWC we spent a week at Tom Dy AFESIP Cambodia’s center. The center hosts girls and children victims of sexual slavery and rape, giving them the possibility to build a new life having an education and as much love as possible. Meeting the girls showed us the true meaning of resilience but also put us face to face with the violence of violence against women today. Estimates from the Cambodian Government say there are over 34,000 commercial sex workers in Cambodia, with as many as one third being children. During our experiences at AFESIP we were able to witness with our eyes the way it changes these girls lives, helps them build a future and secure justice.
Our goal for this fundraiser is to raise the 300$ necessary to fund the legal assistance of one of the girls, supporting them in their fight for the justice they deserve. In fact, AFESIP provides legal aid and support for the recourse to both justice and compensation to all victims. AFESIP’s protection officer works with other like-minded NGOs to prepare legal cases and ensures all victims are provided with legal assistance and representation throughout the legal process. In each case, they need lawyers to defend and represent the victims in courts.
