Dear friends, colleagues and family,

As many of you know my background is in social work and photojournalism. For the last 8 years I have been documenting the struggles of people and human rights abuses in different parts of the world.

A couple of months ago, after presenting my portfolio and explaining the stories behind the photos, I was offered a place in the International Centre of Photography to do the year long “Documentary Photography and Photojournalism” program. (http://www.icp.org/school/one-year-certificate/documentary-photography-and-photojournalism) . The Documentary Photography and Photojournalism Program focuses specifically on the investigative skills and technical knowledge necessary to advance in the complex and constantly changing world of visual journalism. We will discuss new media, business, and methodologies as well as political, ethical, and social concerns.

When I got the news I was very excited! I couldn’t believe it! Then I realized that it was almost impossible for me to be able to afford it. But a very close friend reminded me that there are plenty of people around me that appreciate the work I have been doing all these years and that some of them would like to help out, so I swallowed my pride and I decided set up this page.

I believe that multimedia (photo and video) is a powerful tool that captures not only moments, but can spread ideas and create meaningful change. During those years working in media I realized that I had the power to share people’s stories and make a positive impact through my photography and video. It became my personal mission to photograph that reality and share it with the world. I would like to continue to use the camera to win support for social causes: poverty and homelessness, AIDS, the farm crisis, gender issues, the environment.

This opportunity with the ICP will help me to improve my existing skills and learn new ones. It will also allow me the opportunity to develop contacts and reach as many people as possible, so the future stories can have a big impact.

So, if you believe in the value of the work I have been doing all these years and would like to help me to improve my skills so I can increase the impact with the social stories and giving people out there a chance to have their voices heard through photojournalism I would really appreciate your support. I will update all of you with news and projects that I will be doing over there and I hope that we can work together in the near future.

Thanks for your support!!!
