Elayna Dawn Wright’s Heart Surgery
Donation protected
I never ever thought I’d be writing anything like this but more than anything we ask that you lift up our baby girl up in prayer. On August 11th, 2022 Elayna was seen for a school physical. We left the office with some heavy news and a referral to a Cardiologist at OU Childrens.
The pediatrician heard a heart murmur and immediately called for a chest X-ray. The X-ray came back abnormal showing an enlarged heart. Elayna was seen the very next day at OU Childrens and the news only got worse. Elayna has a rare combination of heart diseases. Her PDA vein never formed so she needs a artificial vein in place to alleviate blood flow and direct the blood correctly. She also has severe mitral valve stenosis blocking a lot of that blood and also needs muscle reconstruction in the bottom left chamber. In simple terms she has blood shooting through two major arteries instead of being split into four causing high blood pressure, she has a tight kink, and her heart isn’t able to pump correctly. Her heart is way over working and swelling.
The doctors at OU have had a conference to discuss her case and are wanting to get this taken care of as soon as possible- all in one go. Elayna is asymptomatic so she has had a very normal and happy 3 years of life. The blessing in this is that we enrolled Elayna to Head Start at the time that we did. If we would have waited another year, the Doctors have shared, it would’ve been too late for her.
They are very shocked at how healthy she is, I was told someone with her heart conditions should be taking at least 5 naps a day & she barely even takes one! The down side to being asymptomatic is not knowing when she needs medical attention until it’s too late. Thankfully the Doctors got Elayna pushed up and she’s scheduled for heart surgery on the 6th of September. We have high hopes and full faith that she is going to do phenomenal. We are leaning heavy on God ask that you do so with us! We are praising Him in this storm. The whole cardiologist team are coming together for her.
I will be taking a break from my business and work until Elayna is fully recovered. My husband will be off work as well while she is admitted. We don’t want to leave her side one bit but bills don’t hold off for anyone. Any help financially during this time is greatly appreciated! We know God will provide without a doubt, He has shown up for us all of our life and that’s not about to change! We will update everyone as this is all about to take place very quickly. Prayers for her siblings as they are also on this new journey with us.
