Our Dad’s Road to Recovery

Dear friends and family,

 

As many of you know, our dad, Thomas Humphrey, was hospitalized with COVID and Pneumonia on November 17th 2021. From there, he was admitted to the Critical Care Unit at Sacred Heart in Eu Claire, WI. He was intubated for three weeks before receiving a tracheostomy and continues to be on the ventilator. During this time, he battled with blood clots, infections and significant damage to his lungs.

 

Dad was transferred to Select Speciality Hospital, a Long Term Acute Care Center, in Madison, WI on December 30th, 2021. He continues to battle infection and damaged lungs while they are working to wean him off the venthilator.

 

There are still many unknowns at this point, whether he will recover or if he does, what that recovery will look like. While dad has a large support system, our family will have difficulties managing to have someone there with him daily to be his emotional support and advocate during this challenging time.

 

We are asking for support in funding for travel expenses and lodging to ensure that my dad receives the support he needs for recovery. We are also asking for support to hopefully get him transferred to a hospital closer to home where travel and lodging won’t be a barrier to being with him and helping him heal.

 

Dad is the strongest (and strongest willed) person we know. We are praying that his strength is enough to get him through this challenging journey and back to the adventurous, fun-loving traveler we all know.
