Alok ist ein junger, lebensfroher Hund, den ich an meinem ersten Tag am Strand von Varkala (Kerala, Südindien) kennengelernt habe. Kaum war ich da, kam er mir mit wedelndem Schwanz entgegen – und erkannte mich schon bald jedes Mal wieder, wenn ich zurückkam. Nach und nach brachte er zwei andere junge Hunde mit, vermutlich seine Schwestern. Gemeinsam lagen sie auf meinem Handtuch, spielten neben mir – und manchmal auch direkt auf meinem Schoß.
Alok hat sich mir besonders angeschlossen. Ich habe mich in ihn verliebt – und irgendwann war klar: Ich möchte ihm ein sicheres Zuhause in Deutschland geben. Als das klar war ging ich mit ihm zum Tierarzt für die ersten Untersuchungen und Impfungen und nahm ihn im Anschluss mit in meine Unterkunft.
Alles war neu für ihn, aber ich hatte sofort das Gefühl, dass er dankbar war für die Sicherheit. Er hat viel geschlafen – als ob er zum ersten Mal wirklich zur Ruhe kam.
Die Entscheidung, nur ihn mitzunehmen und seine Gefährtinnen zurückzulassen, war sehr schwer. Genau für Hunde wie sie – lieb, unscheinbar, ohne Perspektive – möchte ich mit dieser Aktion ebenfalls Unterstützung ermöglichen.
In Varkala leben unzählige Straßenhunde. Viele sind krank, verletzt, unterernährt oder dehydriert. Manche werden gefüttert, andere ignoriert – aber einige werden auch aktiv bedroht oder getötet. Es gibt Berichte über Vergiftungen, Misshandlungen und brutales Töten – oft ohne Konsequenzen.
Die einzige konstante Hilfe vor Ort kommt von Operation Street Dog Varkala: einem kleinen, ehrenamtlichen Team von Freiwilligen. Sie leisten Enormes mit sehr wenigen Mitteln:
- Versorgung verletzter und kranker Hunde
- Organisation von Rettungen
- Sterilisationen von Hündinnen
- Impfungen und Futterhilfe
- Aufklärung und langfristiger Einsatz für den Schutz der Tiere
Auch bei Aloks Rettung haben sie mir geholfen, indem sie mich beraten und mit den richtigen Kontakten für Tierarzt, Transport und Unterkunft vernetzt haben. Daher würde ich sie gerne mit dieser Spendenaktion ebenfalls unterstützen.
Wie es für Alok weitergeht:
Alok wurde gechipt, geimpft, entwurmt und medizinisch versorgt. Anschließend trat er eine über 13-stündige Autofahrt nach Bangalore an, wo er nun für mehrere Monate in einer Hundepension lebt.
Nach EU-Vorgaben muss er mindestens 4 Monate nach der Tollwutimpfung in Indien bleiben. Nach 30 Tagen erfolgt ein Tollwut-Titertest, 90 Tage später darf er dann nach Deutschland ausreisen.
Das alles bringt hohe Kosten mit sich:
Transport Varkala – Bangalore: 24.000 ₹ (ca. 250 €)
Unterkunft & Pflege (4 Monate): 48.000 ₹ (ca. 500 €)
Tollwut-Titertest: 25.000 ₹ (ca. 260 €)
Organisation & Vorbereitung vor Ort: mind. 80.500 ₹ (ca. 840 €)
Flug nach Deutschland: ca. 1.90.000 ₹ (ca. 1.990 €)
Kosten in Deutschland (Abwicklung, Zoll, Agentur etc.): 700–900 €
Gesamtkosten: ca. 4.600–4.800 €
Einen großen Teil dieser Summe übernehme ich selbst – aber ich würde mich sehr über eure Unterstützung freuen.
Mit eurer Hilfe möchte ich jedoch nicht nur Aloks Reise finanzieren, sondern auch langfristig etwas vor Ort bewirken:

Die Kosten für die Sterilisation einer Hündin betragen circa 25-30€.
Schon kleine Beträge können also großes bewirken und das Leben vieler Welpen verhindern, bevor sie auf der Straße landen.

Alok's journey – from the beaches of India to a safe home in Germany
Alok is a young, joyful dog I met on my very first day at the beach in Varkala (Kerala, South India). As soon as I arrived, he came running toward me with a wagging tail – and soon, he began to recognize me from afar whenever I returned.
Not long after, he brought along two other young dogs – likely his sisters. The three of them would lie on my towel, play next to me (and sometimes right on my lap).
Alok especially stuck by my side. I fell in love with him – and at some point, I knew: I wanted to give him a safe and loving home in Germany.
Once I had made that decision, I took him to the vet for his first vaccinations and check-ups – and then brought him with me to my accommodation.
Everything was new for him, but I immediately felt how thankful he was to be safe. He slept a lot – as if, for the first time in his life, he could finally relax.
Leaving his companions behind was heartbreaking. This fundraiser is not just for Alok – it's also to help dogs like his sisters: gentle, overlooked, and without a future on the streets.
Varkala is home to countless stray dogs. Many are sick, injured, malnourished or dehydrated. Some are cared for, many are ignored – but some are actively threatened or killed.
There are reports of poisonings, abuse, and brutal killings – often without consequences.
The only consistent support on the ground comes from Operation Street Dog Varkala – a small, volunteer-run organization doing incredible work with very limited resources:
- Treating injured and sick dogs
- Organizing rescues
- Spaying female dogs
- Vaccinations and food support
- Education and long-term protection efforts
They were also a huge help in rescuing Alok – advising me and connecting me with the right contacts for vets, transport, and boarding.
That’s why I want to support them through this fundraiser too.
What’s next for Alok:
Alok has been vaccinated, dewormed, chipped and received full medical care.
After that, he was taken on a 13-hour car ride to Bangalore, where he’s now living in a dog boarding facility for several months.
According to EU regulations, he must stay in India for at least 4 months after his rabies vaccination. After 30 days, a rabies antibody (titre) test will be done – and 90 days later, he can finally travel to Germany.
All of this comes with high costs:
Transport from Varkala to Bangalore: ₹24,000 (approx. €250)
Boarding & care (4 months): ₹48,000 (approx. €500)
Rabies antibody test: ₹25,000 (approx. €260)
Local coordination & preparation: ₹80,500 (approx. €840)
Flight to Germany: ₹190,000 (approx. €1,990)
Arrival costs in Germany (paperwork, customs, agency): €700–900
