To our family and friends:

GOFUNDME Update:
We have been asked by family and friends how they can help. We decided to set up a GoFundMe to help offset current and future expenses, as there are many unknowns about Easton’s recovery. This money will be used towards medical expenses as well as expenses from our NICU stay (food, parking, etc).  Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Easton’s Story:

On October 20th at 4:24pm, Easton Grant Nohren was born via emergency C Section weighing 9lb 3oz, 21.5” long. Immediately after he was born, it was discovered that Easton had lost 50% of his blood and was at very critical risk of not surviving. This came as a big shock to everyone as I had a healthy pregnancy.

Easton was quickly diagnosed with HIE and immediately transferred to Rush University Medical Center for hypothermia “Cooling” therapy. This is done by a cooling technique is where the infant is placed in a machine that lowers his body temperature to around 90 degrees for 72 hours. This allows for his brain and other organs an opportunity to recover from trauma. During this time, he is fully sedated and supported through IVs and a ventilator. He is also hooked up to a EEG machine to monitor brain activity for seizures.

Easton had many ups and downs during this 72 hour period, but made it to the rewarming process on Friday evening to bring his body back to 98.6 degrees.

Throughout the Cooling and Warming process Easton showed signs of moderate to severe brain damage. He had seizure like activity, low kidney function, and other blood factor concerns. He was on full life support to keep his organs functioning. He did have bright spots of a strong heart, lungs, and liver.

We finally made it to Sunday, which was the day for the MRI, to finally have some answers and understand what Easton’s future will hold.

The MRI was read and showed almost no brain damage. This in itself is considered a miracle.

After the MRI it was determined that Easton needs to undergo dialysis to support his kidneys until they start to function on their own. He had a procedure on Sunday afternoon to add a catheter to attach to the dialysis machine.

So that leaves us to where we are today. We have a very long road ahead of us, but we are so thankful for the normal MRI and for the nurses and physicians at Rush who have been caring for Easton.

We don’t know what the future will hold, but we are optimistic and have faith God is in control.

Please keep Easton in your prayers for continued recovery.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to all of our family and friends for your continued prayers and support.

Also thank you to our family for spoiling Jack and keeping him so happy and loved while his parents are away.

We will continue to update you throughout this journey.

Please keep us and our miracle baby in your prayers.
