Eagle Scout Service Project - Veterans Field 1

Donation protected
For years, the two baseball dugouts out at Veterans Field1 provided protection from the elements but became a mud slick after seasonal rains. Due to lack of drainage, youth athletes could not use these dugouts effectively during games. They had no clean area to rest and place their belongings on and their uniforms would get dirty too. Since I had played little league baseball in this field, I was motivated to help improve the dugouts for the baseball community. The project required a creative solution and with the help of my mentor, Mr. Bill Ossmann, I came up with a plan to address the issue. My Eagle Service Project was to design and build elevated wooden platforms for the two dugouts so that players would have a long lasting, clean surface for their gear. The dimension of one platform is approximately 42" wide and 20 ft in length. I used the standard boardwalk design from the town and modified it to construct these structures with the help of several scouts and adults from BSA Troop1, Acton. Each dugout had its unique challenges. I held five work sessions in August-September 2020. Overall, we accrued over 200 service hours and the material cost for this project was $1150. Do check out my project at Veterans field and please watch the video of the work sessions. Due to COVID, I will not be able to sell any baked goods to raise the donations hence I opened this GoFundMe campaign. Thank you for supporting my fundraiser!
