Hello, my name is Daniel Kelly and my wife's is Tina, Our entire world here in Lake County caught on fire a couple of weeks ago, So many friends, neighbors and County mates were effected that my wife Tina and I thought, it is time to use what we have to help those in need.
We own an old RV Park located at 3297 East Highway 20 here in Nice, California that is still standing, Thank God! It has not been open for 6 or more years but it is all still here!
I got on Facebook's "Lake CountyMagazine" and posted an ad that said we were willing to let folks displaced stay with us for free until they could get an idea of what to do next. Please take a look, you will see pictures of our park before all the trailers arrived and be able to follow what has occured here so far. just search the " Lake County Magazine" or the "Valley Fire Donations" or the "Valley Fire info"on Facebook with my name, Daniel Kelly.
Well I was just dumbfounded when we got 35,000+ likes, 45,000+ shares and over 5000 comments. We only have 30 spaces! People began to contact us in need of homes and others wanting to help, wanting to donate RVs and so on. It just mushroomed on us. We presently have several donated and lent RV,s some of which you can see in the pictures above. We also have several RV's that are occupied by their owners. All of thse folks have been displaced by the Valley Fire. We have also already been able to place 2 families into homes via their requests for RVs and the generous folks who offered homes up for free to evacuees to us and both are happy about that arrangement!
We are very happy that we are able to help and will continue to do so for as long as we are able but have some fairly insurmountable issues to deal with.
Some of these vehicles being donated need water heater and other parts! 2 elderly women here have no hot water because of this. We have huge PG and E, Garbage, , water, and propane bills to deal with and I am a retired and disabled working guy who simply does not have the ability to handle all of these bills.
We have contacted OES and Salvation Army and Red Cross and so on but they are only set up to deal with those that lost homes. No one in the Governmental or Private Agencies like Red Cross seems to be able to assist those of us that are trying to help and although that seems crazy, it is the way it is! Our home did not burn and we do not qualify for help which makes sense! What we are attempting to do here is just outside the box and public assistance doesn't have a category for us.
My wife and I would like to continue to help as long as is possible. We would like to serve as a model for the Private and Governmental Agencies that do help the public in Disasters so that it will be more possible for orinary folks that can help, to help without fear of financial distress and I think that could really make any disaster scenario much less difficult to mobilize and far less expensive to deal with publically which definitely will leave some expendable money for more important issues while rebuilding the infrastructure of a community ravaged by a disaster like our County has been!
If you choose to help us, and we truly need your help, we assure you that the dollars donated will be used for the following things:
A) Repairs to donated RVs for their use as temporary residences. Water heater parts for 2 so the women in them can take a hot shower, a roof leaks on 1, and so on.
B) For the repairs and or additions to this property required by the California State Housing Authority or the County of Lake or any other governing body that is required to allow this activity to continue until the need for it is gone.
C) To pay the excess expenses generated by our guests with respect to water, PG and E, propane, and garbage,
D) To pay any other reasonable and related expenses respective of this effort that we are unaware of presently. We will catalogue them as we proceed for you via update.
E) For a storage container to use for the evacuees to store the things they are gathering out of the weather as they attempt to furnish their eventual homes. We are attempting to find one in form of donation and need one really badly so if we don't get blessed with one via donation, we will smile about all those blessings that have come to these folks here, put our noses down and find another way! Maybe this is it!
E) Any funds not used for the above listed reasons and all funds generated by the sale of the donated RVs when done housing evacuees will be given to Mendo Lake Credit Union in Lakeport California for deposit with the Valley Fire Fund via North Coast Opportunities.
My wife,Tina and dear friend Starr August helping us get these RVs ready for their new occupants. You are the bomb Starr, thanks!
Some donated RVs that are housing evacuees here now.
Our new friend Rosemary and her girl!
The inside of an RV donated by Janis Smiley from Healdsburg Ca, Rosemary and her Aussie Shepard are as comfortable as one can be when they have lost a home and its entire contents! They want you to know they are truly greatful!
Another couple with 3 of the coolest Chihuahuas around that was displaced. They are gone today volunteering their time to the Lucerne Senior Center who needed some help. Nice job you guys!
Van and Judy Nolan from Lower Lake Ca. who donated the most recent addition to the RVs here. Thanks you guys! Thats my friend of over 30 years, another Lake County forevertimer who is the guy responsible for the modern efforts of the North Shore Citizens Watch Group, Kevin Waycik helping me get it home. Kevin put the Nolans and I together and made this happen! Thanks Kev!
This guys mom is gone looking for a new house but he isn't taking life too seriously at this point.
Please take the time to look up the links on Facebook and do your homework because we need some help with this effort and we feel as though there aren't many more worthy causes than getting these folks back to some quality of life!
Thanks, Daniel and Tina Kelly
