Chicago Day of the Girl 2014

For the third year, Girls Like Me Project, Inc. (an Illinois not-for-profit that provides programming for inner-city girls of color) will host Chicago Day of the Girl, our flagship program, in honor of International Day of the Girl; declared by the United Nations as October 11.

Millions of girls and women around the globe will join the collective movement to advocate for, as well as, educate girls. This day is also a day to shed light on social and political injustices impacting girls.

This is why Girls Like Me Project, Inc. and our partners are hosting “Chicago Day of the Girl: Global Connections” as an event that connects Chicago's inner-city girls to a global community, celebrates them, and advocates for their success beyond the myriad of injustices they face including poverty, environmental, education and health inequities; media stereotypes; and violence among others.

Right here in Chicago, we will convene a group of 150 adolescent girls ages 13-18. The free event will take place on Saturday, October 11 from 11a-3:00p and will feature community resource sharing, food, thought-provoking programming including interactive fun games, cultral performances and panel discussions, as well as intentional engagement with prospective mentors.

More great news for CDOG 2014, this year we have partnered with University of Chicago's Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality as well as Global Affairs Leadership Society. Still, this special day can only reach its full potential with your help!
