Bonnie's Journey to Recovery

July 18, 2014 - “Yesterday was full of tears, overwhelming shock.
Today is full of tears, overwhelming love, and precious words spoken from family and friends.  Thank you for the fullness you bring to my life.  Jesus loves me this I know!”

Dear Friends & Family,

Bonnie Dillashaw was recently diagnosed with laryngeal cancer.  Approximately five months ago, her throat started hurting, like sinus drainage soreness.  She thought it was from spring allergies until it started feeling worse after two months.  A few weeks later, she was still in pain, so she took a mirror, looked in her mouth and it looked scary.  She went to her primary care physician the next day.  He didn't recognize what he saw as a tonsil and referred her to an ENT.  The ENT biopsied it and treated her for ulcerated tonsil. The biopsy came back negative for any cancer but her tonsil never got better so he scheduled her to have it out, that's when they found the cancer.  It was deep inside her tonsil and traveled under it into her throat and tongue.

She has remained steadfast and is truly relying on her mantra:

Jesus, Lover of my soul.
Jesus, I will never let you go.
You've taken me from the miry clay.
You've set my feet upon a rock and now I know,
I love you, I need you,
And though my world may fall, I'll never let you go.
My savior, my closest friend.
I'll love you to the very end.

Bonnie is a wife to her childhood sweetheart, Clay and the mother of three beautiful children who need our support.  No gift is too small, as we are trying to help alleviate some of the cost her family will be incurring.

All testing done, she now has a clear mapped out treatment plan. She now is classified as stage 3; it was confirmed to be in her tongue as well as tonsil, throat and lymph nodes.  She has met with the Oncologist and will have seven weeks (34 treatments) of radiation therapy and have (8) chemo infusions.  Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Facebook Update:  I've been reluctant to post because I don't want to be one of "those" kinds of friends.  You know the saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then say nothing at all"!   So we will just stick to updates.  Today marks my 5th chemo and half way through radiation.  They postponed Monday and Tuesdays treatments because I was not doing well at all.  Saturday I reached a peak in my therapy and needed the extra days to heal, evidentially I am reacting significantly to treatments which are a blessing and a curse.  I am unable to talk/communicate well because of my throat being so swollen.  The radiation burns have definitely been a real challenge and I am only drinking protein shakes for nourishment, my physicians are pleased that I've only lost about 7 lbs.  (That's a lot for someone who started this at 132lbs).  I am now on very strong pain meds 24/7 so a lot of the day I am loopy and I sleep a lot.  I am still standing on my faith and have had many sweet moments with my savior just basking in His presence while listening to worship music.  I still feel the comfort and peace from your prayers and thank you again for uplifting me.  I can't thank my friends and family enough for all the gifts that continue to be poured at my feet.  When Jesus spoke His word to me that "cancer was going to serve me", well, he meant it and cancer serves me every day.  One blessing that I've received was this weekend; someone we don't even know just GAVE us their pop up camper.  I have wanted/longed for a camper for about 3 years now.  I am brought to tears (painful tears), at the outpouring of love on my family.  Thank you Jesus for your provision and loving kindness.  Much love to all of you.
