The young community of the Akademija neighborhood, located in a small and
cozy part of the Kaunas District (Lithuania), are trying to survive by creating a
source of income generation - a social business shop.

Until now the community activists have been implementing projects, organizing
events, educations and various activities voluntarily and at their own expense.
Volunteering is the main engine of a community, but when it becomes a duty and
full-time time job... When the same entrepreneurs every time is been asked of
financial support... Eventually, this mechanism begins to stall, motivation
disappears, and the community is starting to turn away from previous goals. In
addition, the community of Akademija is the only one in all Kaunas District that
does not have its own home, cultural hall or center, nor does it receive financial
support to support cultural life. Until now, we held meetings in the basement of
an apartment building, later we were welcomed by a benevolent mayor of the
Akademija. As the number of community members grew rapidly, the mayor’s
office became too tight.

To build a home for ourselves and maintain the community, the cultural life at the neighborhood, we came up with the idea to earn the money for ourselves! The
young families who are trying to survive by setting up small businesses are
settling down in Akademija. We have a variety of local producers, growers,
artists: painters, jewelry, organic cosmetics, toys, handbags makers also florists
etc. We invited them to create a social business together - the shop 'Local: Made
in Akademija', which would be not only the place to sell the products of local
producers, hold educations, tastings, seminars but also a space for community -
the home for everyone in Akademija. A part of the shop's profit, as a social return, would be allocated to the community's cultural and social needs.

We have signed a contract with one supermarket for the lease of the premises
currently. It is left to set up the store, which is scheduled to be open in October
this year. We desperately need financial support to set up the shop to buy a
shelves for products, chairs and tables for community visits and activities, paints
for walls... Your good will and the of support for our idea is invaluable, and at the
same time, it is the greatest motivation to keep dreaming and create strong and
self-sufficient and happy community

Lietuvoje, Kauno rajone, mažame jaukiame miestelyje įsikūrusi jauna Akademijos bendruomenė stengiasi išgyventi, susikurdama  sau pajamų
generavimo šaltinį – socialinę parduotuvę.


Ligi šiol savanoriai vykdydavo projektus, savo lėšomis rengdavo renginius,
edukacijas, įvairiausias veiklas. Savanoriavimas – pagrindinis bendruomenės varikliukas, bet kai tai patampa pareiga, pilnu etatu…Kai turi kaskart prašyti tų pačių
verslininkų paramos….Ilgainiui šis mechanizmas pradeda strigti, motyvacija
dingsta, bendruomenė pabyra….Be to, Akademijos bendruomenė vienintelė
Kauno rajone, neturinti savo namų, kultūros salės ar centro, taip pat negauna
finansinės paramos kultūriniam gyvenimui palaikyti. Ligšiol susitikimus
rengdavome daugiabučio rūsyje, vėliau mus priglausdavo geranoriškas
Akademijos seniūnas. Bendruomenės narių skaičiui sparčiai augant, seniūno
kabinetas tapo per ankštas.

Norėdami sau pasistatyti namus bei išlaikyti bendruomenę, kultūrinį gyvenimą
Akademijoje, sugalvojome, kad atėjo metas užsidirbti patiems! Akademijoje
kuriasi jaunos šeimos, kurios bando prie išgyvenimo dasidurti kurdamos smulkius verslus. Turime įvairių vietos gamintojų, augintojų, menininkų, kurie tapo
paveikslus, kuria papuošalus, gamina ekologišką kosmetiką, augina gėles, siuva
žaislus, rankines, kuria papuošalus ir tt. Pakvietėme juos kartu kurti socialinę
parduotuvę “Lokali – made in Akademija”, kurioje ne tik būtų prekiaujama vietinių gamintojų produkcija, vyktų edukacijos, degustacijos, seminarai, bet kuri tuo
pačiu būtų ir Akademijos bendruomenės namai.  Dalis parduotuvės pelno, kaip
socialinė grąža būtų skiriama  bendruomenės kultūrinėm, socialinėm veiklom
vykdyti. 

Šiuo metu esame pasirašę sutartį su vienu prekybos centru dėl patalpų nuomos.
Beliko įsirengti parduotuvę, kurios atidarymas numatytas spalio mėn. Mums labai reikalinga finansinė parama parduotuvės įrengimui. Jūsų geranoriškumas ir mūsų idėjos palaikymas – neapsakomai vertinamas, tuo pačiu tai - didžiausia motyvacija nesustoti.
