This last Thursday night, April 5th, 2018 at around 11:30pm Ryanne and I were relaxing at home when all of a sudden there's a frantic knock on the front door, followed by a voice exclaiming, "DUDE YOUR CAR IS ON FIRE!!!" I opened the door and saw a man, eyes wide, motioning for me to follow him. He again tells me that my car is on fire and that he had already called 911. I proceeded to follow him down  the driveway towards my car. Turns out the guy was not lying, my car was indeed on fire, and not like a little 'one log' fire but a serious "my backseat is now a portal to hell" kind of fire. Before I had a chance to even comprehend what I was witnessing the Fire Dept. Rolled up, in record time, I might add. I'm pretty sure they came from the firehouse across from Redwood Acres, which is only about 10 blocks from our house but still a very impressive response time. Once the blaze was out we discovered that the fire had started because someone thought it would be a good idea to break my back side window and throw a lit flare into the backseat. Later I was showing a good friend the pictures I had taken of the damage (see photos) and he immediately recognized that a flare gun was most likely used by the perpetrator/s. That would explain the baseball size hole in my window, the burnt flare in my backseat and the subsequent inferno that followed ( Shout-out to detective Bob Mackey in Wisconsin).
The car was a disaster. Side Window busted. The back passenger seat was completely melted away. Every inch of the interior, including windshield and windows were covered in a dark blackish soot, and this isn't the kind that easily rubs away, this stuff appears to have chemically fused to whatever it touched, which was the entirety of the inside. But the smell is what makes it truly unbearable.

The Fire Dept. Seemed genuinely baffled as to why somebody would do something like this and asked me ,point-blank, if I had any enemies.-- I told them that I was just as baffled and that I could not think of anyone that disliked me enough to set my car ablaze. So we chalked it up to  indiscriminate extreme vandalism.
I then asked one of the Firefighters, "What sort of cleaning agent would be best for this situation?" to which he replied, "Oh no, this car is a wrap! There's toxic carcinogens embedded in every fiber of this car and it will never go away. You should never drive this car again." So even if we pulled all the seats and cleaned all the residue and soot that blankets the car's interior, it would still maintain a toxicity level that far exceeds the amount that humans should be subjected to. So it would appear that the Fireman was right, the car is indeed a wrap. Unfortunately, the little Honda was, and still remains inconsolable. Ryanne was, understandably, a bit freaked out by the evening's events and I was a little confused as to what our next move should be. Our insurance was quickly ruled out as a viable option to remedy the situation because our basic coverage (of course) does not cover drive-by/walk-by flare gun attacks. Henceforth, the GoFundMe page was born.
I went back and forth for a few days contemplating whether to create this page or not. It does feel a bit strange asking my friends and family for help because someone torched my car.
I figure, ol' Smokey (formally the Honda Accord) could be sold as a parts car, that is, after I buy a gas mask and cleaning supplies and clean her up a bit.
The ad will read:

For sale: 2001 Honda Accord
Parts car only
Last owner was a smoker
Newly tinted windows
$300 or best offer.

That should be a start, but unfortunately,
Ryanne and I will still be well short of purchasing a decent reliable vehicle. If you have the means and would like to donate to our car fund it would be greatly appreciated. Conversely, if you're strapped and need to put food on the table, that is completely understandable as well. Either way we appreciate you taking the time to read our story.
