DownLGFA Raising Funds In Memory Of Siobhan McCann

Unfortunately, through these hard times, many businesses and organisations are struggling financially. As you have seen no doubt, many counties are coming up with ideas to fundraise for important sources. The Down Senior Ladies as a group of players and a management team have come up with an idea to help raise money for the Newry Hospice and Cancer fund for Children. I’m sure we all know someone who has been affected by cancer in their lives and as a small token of appreciation we would like support the hospice and the children’s cancer fund for their hard work in what they do. Our fellow team mate and good friend Siobhan McCann sadly passed away on the 6th of May 2019 after facing her toughest opponent and battling cancer. The cancer fund for children is an organisation in which is close to the hearts of Siobhan and her family and therefore we as a team want to help raise money for this amazing cause in these uncertain times.
The Down senior ladies are very keen to fundraise at this time and have been actively discussing ideas. HOWEVER, they would like to do something different to any other team or county and would like to do this with their club mates in their club colours. Therefore we are asking ladies players in Down for the first time ever to #clubtogether to complete a #TEAM100k on
Saturday 16th May
The 100k will be split up between all members of the club panel and recorded in a table format, some members will only have to do 1km or 2km others may do more!
Obviously due to social distancing each player will do this in their own space. The completed team tables will then be sent to the county board on Sunday 17th. As we are all competitive people, an added incentive and hopefully boost fundraising for these charities- the fastest club to complete 100k together will be announced on the various social media outlets and will earn 5% of the total money raised for their club. The rest will go to the two charities.
We would encourage all participants to share and post on all social media platforms in their club colours, tagging the Down Ladies Facebook or Instagram page and use the #TEAM100k. we expect social media to be alive on Saturday 16th May with Down clubs working together, taking videos and pictures to fundraise. Together we can ensure these worthwhile causes are supported during these difficult, uncertain times. We would be delighted for every club to get involved and come together as one for this amazing cause
