Water & Donuts for the Homeless

My name is Andrew Cowling. I am a sophomore at Cathedral Catholic High School. I’ve been volunteering serving meals at Father Joe’s Villages in San Diego for the past couple of years.
At Father Joe’s, the food is really good, but most of the time, it doesn't include a dessert. There have been a few occasions when cookies and donuts are served. On those occasions, there are never enough for everyone. For those lucky enough to get the occasional sweet treat, you can see the smiles on their faces.
People living on the street have very limited access to clean drinking water. Some are not physically able to move around to get their own water even if it was available. They are always glad to see our wagons coming around handing out water and donuts, with many asking for two or three bottles to share with their dogs.
I am raising money to pay for bottled water & donuts. With our wagons, my parents and I walk along Imperial Ave., 17th St., Island Ave., and Market St. every Saturday or Sunday handing out donuts and bottled water. Some of the homeless are not even getting a meal a day because they are not able to move around due to medical problems.
My parents have been spending over $200 weekly to pay for 320 bottles of water, 13-15 dozen donuts, and 50-75 muffins. I would like to buy more because this amount is not enough. Sometimes I walk away feeling bad because I can tell that those who didn’t get any are disappointed.
Although I realize donuts will not make a dent in solving homelessness, I hope to bring the homeless any small
temporary enjoyment that I can. I would greatly appreciate any donation to help me help the homeless.
