In 2019, we conducted a capital campaign to raise funds necessary to rehabilitate Sacred Heart Church into a permanent shelter for residents of LaPorte County suffering from homelessness. A key to the success of that campaign was a challenge grant from the Healthcare Foundation of LaPorte pledging grants totalling $137,500 if we raised the matching amount within a one year time frame. Because of the generosity of folks like you, we matched that challenge within 5 & 1/2 months!
In Phase 2, Tonn & Blank has provided us with a community project proposal to help modernize our facilities by removing the original stained glass windows and front door that create a drafty environment for our temporary guests. With winter fast approaching, we URGENTLY need to replace the windows and front door with modern energy-efficient replacements. Our facility struggles to maintain adequate and cost-effective temperatures during the cold NWI winters.
The Healthcare Foundation of LaPorte has graciously offered to match every dollar (up to $25k) that we raise through community partners and donors. We will use every penny of the $50,000 to upgrade our facility.
In 2021, we had 82 guests successfully complete our program and were housed. Every person is unique and comes to us in their greatest time of need; whether that need is temporary shelter, counseling, food, financial budgeting guidance, etc. We need your help to continue with our mission. Our next facility projects including a new roof, cupola repair, and many, many more items. Anything raised in excess of the $25k will go towards these future repairs and needs for the shelter.
