Don't Double the DAPL

Just two years ago, the Standing Rock Sioux, indigenous peoples from across the globe, and their allies stood against the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). Their non-violent resistance did not succeed, and Bakken crude now flows through DAPL from North Dakota into Illinois. In June Dakota Access announced plans to install additional pumping stations up and down the line to increase its capacity to 1.1 million barrels per day (bpd) – double its present capacity.

In Illinois, pipeline construction is regulated by the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC).  Dakota Access and Energy Transfer Crude Oil company have submitted a joint petition to the ICC for this project. This request, if granted, would double the greenhouse gas emissions from burning the oil transported by this pipeline. No matter where it's finally burned, this would further exacerbate the global climate emergency. We must leave fossil fuels in the ground.

SOIL has retained a lawyer and is intervening in the approval process. Successful resistance in Illinois will stop this fossil fuel expansion project in North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa, too. We need your help. Please donate whatever you can. Thank you!
