My name is Greg Fortier, and my coworker, Tracy Gilford, has been a part of the Mark Lawrence Photographers family for forty-one years.
He spent many of those years as a volunteer fireman in Groveland, MA, a volunteer at his church, and at the local cable access station.
He was a long-time member of the Professional Photographers of Massachusetts.
If there was someone who needed help in his community, he was there. He often told me he spent some Saturdays at the local Veterans' Park just picking up trash. It wasn't his job, but as a veteran himself, he felt it was disrespectful and decided to take care of it himself.
At work, he would always offer to be the last one out and was often the first one in.
As a school photographer, many of the students only knew him as Sunny, as when he would try to get them to smile, he would say, "Give me a little more sunshine."
A few years ago, this man, who gave of himself constantly, even sometimes after fighting a fire in the middle of the night and still making it into work on time, was diagnosed with ALS.
Not one to use it as an excuse, he has continued to work and do what he can to the best of his abilities.
Unfortunately, the disease is taking its toll, and he is retiring from Mark Lawrence Photographers at the end of December.
He had already given up the volunteer fireman job, as it had become unsafe for him to do so.
I asked him what his bucket list was, and having an interest in the military and its history, he said, "I have always wanted to see Pearl Harbor."
I don't know if we would raise enough money if he could make his bucket list come true, as he must carry his food in liquid form, and we would have to find an airline that would let him carry enough to bring with him, as well as have someone accompany him on the trip.
But even if he can't, his medical bills will keep coming, and he will be unable to work.
If you can help, in any way, for the man who has always given of himself, I, we, of the Mark Lawrence family would love to be able to help him.
