Donate money to the Congo (African Child Sponsorship)

Da Jolie,  Baby Anastasie, Exaucé and Neville

Bernard Kalume Buleri lives with his family in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, where he settled after fleeing the genocide in Rwanda during the mid-nineties.

His wife was killed before his eyes, and he was forced to pay the militia five dollars so that it would be quick and merciful.

Bernard now lives in one of the poorest countries in the world, but rich in rare minerals - partly a result of past and present colonial greed. Abject poverty is a vicious circle and difficult to escape.

An intelligent and educated man, Bernard needs your help. Your support would not only change his life, but also enable his children to eat correctly and go to school regularly.

FUNDS WILL BE USED FOR:

A few hundred dollars is all it would take
to set up a market stall for Da Jolie, Bernard's wife, giving them a chance to earn some food money while Bernard searches for work.

Once funds hit $350, she can start. She intends to sell second-hand clothes and shoes, and all money donated after this will buy more stock.

If you have long considered how to help an African family, what better way to help a family directly? Even the best African children charities cannot give you the same satisfaction, as you donations are diluted and spread across various projects.

By donating to this very personal campaign, today's gift will change lives far into the future, as Bernard's children grow in confidence and self-sufficiency.

It crossed my mind how easy it is to succumb to guilt and anger when faced with the truth about the exploitation of poorer countries and people, but these emotions should have no place in our present or our future.

Now is a time for action, so that we may all move towards a future when sharing is the norm and not the exception.

Bernard's situation is urgent, and just a small amount would alleviate much of his family's suffering.  Even the prospect of being helped by strangers in another country has brought hope and joy.

One of the best ways to donate money to the Congo is to help a family, just like yours.

Take the time to watch the documentary 'Congo, My Precious'. If you are moved, as I was, please join with me and donate to Africa the best way possible - by helping a family bring up their children.
