At PeCHE (Peruvian Children’s Health and Education), our purpose is to break barriers to education and health for children in underserved communities of Peru. We work to ensure that every child has access to the tools, care, and support they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
Last summer, we traveled to Peru to teach children at an elementary school in Ayacucho, Peru about dental hygiene and STEM topics, as well as donating food and toys. We conducted an experiment where we built a small water filter as a class and discussed the barriers the community faces finding clean water.
In this town, residents have to buy bottled water to make sure they don’t get sick drinking locally available water. As a result, PeCHE’s next goal is to install two LifeStraw Community Filters–one at the local elementary school and one at the local high school–to ensure the students have safe drinking water available to them. We would also like to donate three classroom projectors, and fund a graduation party at the high school.
