Hi everyone! My name is Alex. I am a dryland musher leading a team of rescue, discarded huskies whose lives were changed by doing what they were born to do. I run a rescue dedicated to pulling kill-list/medically compromised shelter dogs.
I am starting this campaign so that I can continue to enrich the lives of all dogs we rescue and rehabilitate, and to ensure we can save even more.
We are two-time USFSS National Team members, set to compete in the World Championship this year - these dogs came from nothing... together, we have proven that they can do ANYTHING.
Not only were these dogs unwanted, but most have experienced extreme hardship, and some have significant handicaps. Their stories still haunt me.
Odin, our one-eyed lead dog, was left for dead on the streets of Newark and sat for 2 1/2 agonizing weeks with his eye hanging out of his head.
Elton, the deaf Alaskan, was dropped from his team for not being “fast enough,” because he shed too much in the house, and because he has a “deaf screech” that was annoying to some.
Nova, who roamed the streets of Camden for almost 6 months, surviving alone. Her black hair was bleached brown when we picked her up from a life outside in the elements.
Axel, who lived the first year of his life on a tether outside, eating only raw chicken. Never a walk, rarely a human hand giving him any affection.
Vail, who was up for euthanasia at a shelter in South Carolina before we stepped up, for no good reason but for lack of space.
None of that mattered to me. None of that mattered on the trail. All of these dogs still proved themselves absolutely worthy, despite their beginnings and trauma.
