Keith/Drifty was diagnosed with cirrhosis/end stage liver failure 3 months ago. We started going to a lot of appointments that made big changes in medications and frequent trips to La Crosse for a paracentesis to get fluid drained of his abdomen. He was doing really well and things looking like they were going to be manageable. However, Oct 30 Drifty wasn't feeling good and I brought him to La Crosse ER, where they found him to be retaining urine. A catheter was placed and told to follow up outpatient. Morning of November 4th I found him to be very ill and brought him to Decorah ER. It was determined he needed to be transferred to Gunderson Hospital in La Crosse. It was suspected that the fluid in his abdomen became infected which lead to sepsis. During his hospital stay his health continued to decline, and eventually his kidneys would start to fail too. Attempted to do dialysis however he could not tolerate that and blood pressure would drop too low. Decision was made that he would need to be transferred to a different hospital to get a higher level of care liver transplant evaluation at UW Madison, but would need to wait for a bed to open. Evening of November 14th he started to become very sick. A call was made to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee since UW still didn't have a bed. Froedtert accepted Drifty for emergent transfer, and he was brought to Milwaukee on Mayo private medical plane. Andrew and I followed and drove the 3hrs to Milwaukee. They are able to do more for him here than they could at Gundersen. It's going to be a long road here at Milwaukee. They are currently trying to get his liver and kidney numbers down, treat infection and there are concerns for bleeding. After these things can be stabilized he will undergo an evaluation to see if he could get on a list for a liver transplant, or liver&kidney transplant. If anyone could donate to help with the expenses of traveling back and forth to Milwaukee, hotels, medical bills and time away from work Drifty, myself and our family would greatly appreciate it. Please keep him in your thoughts and hope for the best for him while he's on this journey
