Hey everyone, most of you know me as Sam. I own Javalina Coffee House here in small town Silver City. I'm a fairly private person so it's with great difficulty that I ask for help for even the smallest things including asking someone to hold my baby while I'm making a line of drinks. A lot of you have probably seen my baby at work with me these last 5 or more months and I'm not sure how many of you have noticed that we've been working 9+ days in a row without a break and usually for about 12 to 13 hours at a time together. She's primarily breast-fed and she only wants it from the source or else she is inconsolable.
We've been at work together that often because my family is struggling financially. It's been an extremely rough year and unfortunately, our struggles have peaked this month. We had to move into a bigger home with 3 times the rent cost to accommodate for my baby 6 months into my pregnancy...our bills tripled in size...after moving into the house we found out that I was dropped from my health insurance 3 months into my pregnancy… the rent for the coffeeshop went up by a small chunk...we had to get out from under a big loan I got a year ago which was taking about $6,000+ out of my account every 60 days... and then we got our late taxes together which have also added to the pile of behind bills... I'm running low on hope that things will get better.
Our coffeeshop has been losing business significantly over the last year as well. Many of you have noticed that our big fridge had gone empty during my maternity leave because we couldn't keep up with the rising cost in Asian products or from time to time we don't have a syrup from our main menu or main ingredient that we need due to inflation...We didn't realize how difficult it would be to travel around to get product immediately and solely relying on buying from what we can get shipped to us. It's come to the point where
I've had to lower my staff's hours to my employee's working once or twice a week in order not to have to lay anyone off but simultaneously my baby and I or my partner working 65 to 80 hour work weeks. We just got out of one of our bigger debts which has left us in a deep hole were trying our best to dig ourselves out of...we don't have enough for Christmas presents this year...We seldomly buy groceries or eat more than once a day...and on top of it all probably getting roughly 4 to 6.5 hours of sleep per night because of our not-a-newborn anymore 7 month old Baby Aria who is currently teething.
Our bills are behind by months and they're beginning to pile up even though we're working ourselves to the bone our accounts are dry because we're trying to keep everything just above water. This month has been the absolute worst of it this year. I want to be optomistic but it's becoming increasingly difficult with problem after problem. At the beginning of December I got punched in the face by a homeless woman who made me feel like she was threatening to both me and my baby while Aria was asleep at work...Then someone reported Aria to the Health department for being behind the bar while I worked so that tacked on extra expenses I didn't forsee...then last Friday my car was stolen and wrecked so now I'm waiting for my insurance agent to call me back and tell me whether or not we're going to survive this financial hole we're already in.
It's been extremely difficult for us to work our normal 12 to 13 hour shifts in the middle of winter with a 7 month old and no working vehicles that were still paying off and we can't afford to ask our staff to pick up more hours than we can currently offer.
I know I'm asking for a lot, but this is how much I'm currently behind just for my home and if I can even get a fraction of this or anything really would help—then I can get my home in order and then whatever we’re making from working at Javalina’s will help the coffeeshop catch up. I love my family and our family business isn't just a business it's our livelihood and our career...I'm trying my best to keep everything together and trying to get our finances smoothed out. I've gotten a few donations in cash and if I get more, I can lower the financial goal I've set for us on this go fund me. I'm just trying to save my home, family, and business from falling through the cracks.
