We need your help to save a priceless collection of Cryptozoological documents, artefacts and memorabilia belonging to the late, Odette Tchernine, legendary Author, Cryptozoologist, journalist, playwright, and poet.

She was one of the most important female, Cryptozoologist of the 20th century, and we believe that it is imperative to save her legacy.

The CFZ (Centre for Fortean Zoology) have become aware that a large collection of personal documents, images, art and tape recordings of Odette’s will soon be going to auction. We really need your help to make sure her work and personal belongings are not spread across the country and lost.

The CFZ hold an important archive of Odette’s work already, including a lost manuscript, and we would like to make sure that these - soon to be sold - documents are joined with them. We have already made a large collection of Odette’s work available on our website for public and academic research and will add these additional works to it, if we are able to obtain them.

Odette is best known for writing several books on the abominable snowman or yeti, such as ‘The Snowman and Company’, ‘In Pursuit of the Abominable Snowman’ and ‘The Yeti’. She was well known in her circle of writers and a member of the Women’s Press Club in London. She was a pioneer and a leader for women in her time as well as today, she was a firm feminist and championed for women to be seen and heard at a time when women were often overlooked in favour of men.

In 2021, a lost manuscript, written by Odette in 1986 but never published, was discovered in a North Devon Auction House. It was purchased accidentally by someone who - serendipitously - knew one of the senior members of the CFZ, to whom he subsequently sold it.

Guin Palmer, mum of two small boys and the Assistant Director of the Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ), worked diligently on the manuscript and now, 37 years after being written, it is now available for purchase on Amazon through CFZ publishing (links below). Guin hopes to go on to write Odette’s biography and help to develop a website dedicated to this remarkable woman.

The CFZ are also creating a unique digital cryptozoology museum to showcase the fascinating and intriguing artifacts amassed by the CFZ over the last 30 years. Once completed, this will be available to the public and the Odette collection will become a part of it.
