Hi, I'm Jess Craft, and I'm helping fundraise on behalf of my friend Katie and her 15-year-old transgender son who are leaving Houston for Colorado this summer.

As you may know, trans kids and their families in Texas are under attack. It's been a dangerous struggle, as TX Governor Abbott and Attorney General Paxton have issued prejudiced directives that have put these families in very real physical danger simply for listening to their children and providing them with best practice, age-appropriate medical care.

None of these directives are law, but their negative impacts are still very real and very scary.

Families don't feel safe in Texas anymore. Institutions like Texas Children's Hospital have paused life-saving medical services to trans kids. Child Protective Services is receiving confusing instruction (or lack thereof), and families are still having their doors knocked on, injunctions ignored.

For this reason, and many others, Katie and her son will be moving to a place where they can be safe and have complete access to the medical and community support they need to thrive.

An unexpected cross-country move is expensive (and hella' stressful!). Please consider helping during this difficult time as they try to find a soft place to land and rebuild their lives to best support one really incredible trans kid. Nobody deserves having their life uprooted at the whim of a politician, least of all a sweet, talented, empathetic 10th grader just trying to live out loud and exist in love.

All donations will go to things like boxes, other packing materials, movers fees, gas for the trip, meals and simple things like toiletries and household items for their new home. We also want to make sure that this cool teen has an awesome, new room when they arrive, so I'm hopeful this fund will help furnish a teenage boy's dream room, chock full of My Chemical Romance posters. And Katie, well, she's an amazing mother and deserves a sanctuary. Comfy towels, good smells and lots of plants to keep herself happy and busy.

Katie's family is not the only one making this move, so additional funds raised will be shared with other families making this impossible choice.
