Kaleb Fila of Star Valley, Wyoming (Etna) is in St. John's Hospital in Jackson where he has undergone 3 surgeries

in 8 days

.  He is facing an unknown recovery time as he continues to be hospitalized as he fights infections affecting his airway and esophagus.

In December Kaleb was sick twice with Influenza A and B which was followed with a sinus infection.  He started seeing a mass form on his neck the beginning of January.  On January 4th he started having a hard time breathing and eventually made it to St. John's where they operated and removed a large infectious abscess that was pushing against his airway.  After a 2 day stay in the hospital he returned home but was only there 1.5 days when the mass returned.  Surgery number 2 occurred and more abscesses were found.  Due to the severity of swelling and other factors, Kaleb remained intubated and sedated for 2 days as they tried to get the infection and swelling under control. After 5 days in the ICU they had hoped to send him home with a mid-line to continue intravenous antibiotics at home.  

Unfortunately the morning of Jan 13th there showed signs of the masses returning.  During a 3rd surgery they found a hole in his esophagus.  As well as other abscesses that had returned.  He now has a feeding tube and will not be allowed to eat/drink anything for 5 days as they hope the hole in the esophogus will heal itself.  They continue to work to rid his body of the infections and have no idea yet when he will return home or when he will be able to return to work.

Kaleb graduated last spring of 2022 from SVHS.  He was a 3 sport athlete excelling in Football, Wrestling, and Soccer.  He is an independent, hardworking and reliable young man.  His employer has been terrific and assures his job will be waiting for him when he is healed and able to return to work.  

Having just entered the workforce Kaleb doesn't have an established Savings to help in a life emergency such as this.  Funds received will go directly to pay for medical bills associated with his 3 surgeries (deductibles, out of pocket, and "over the allowed" amounts) and to help him with his rent until he can return to work.
