Donate to help fight Portland's richest slumlord

We are the Trelawny Tenants Union.

We organized two years ago to collectively defend our homes against our landlord, who the local press has called the Slumlord Millionaire . In retaliation for exposing his violations (which have forced him to return tens of thousands of dollars in illegal rent increases), he is trying to evict one of our lead organizers.

If our landlord succeeds, it will send a chilling message not only to members of our union, but to every tenant in Maine who fights to better their living conditions.

Unfortunately, in a preliminary ruling, a judge ruled that as long as our landlord has the flimsiest of excuses (in this case, a single open window on a 60 degree day and a request for a smaller rent increase), he can retaliate with impunity.

We can’t let this ruling stand, and we won’t. But we need your help.

While our landlord is a multi-millionaire, the tenant fighting this ruling is not. The legal costs have already rung up into the thousands, and we are asking for your help to contribute to our union's legal defense fund to raise the $10,000 - $15,000 we expect it will cost to win the case on appeal.

If you can spare a donation of any size, 100% of your money will go to overturn this terrible precedent. So please give whatever you can. Every bit will help our union-- and organized tenants across Maine-- stand up and protect our homes.
