I’m Anita, a filmmaker based in London, and I’m creating a short film that

blends emotional realism with poetic storytelling. This project explores

fatherlessness, toxic masculinity, faith, identity, and the courage it takes

to confront the past, all through a deeply human love story set in a mystical world.

SYNOPSES:

In a world where the dying are granted one final choice, one person to share their last moments, Denzel Jacobs chooses the woman he hasn’t seen in a decade , yet never stopped carrying in his heart.

Drawn into Veilwood, a mystical forest that appears only to those on the edge of death, Denzel seeks out Denise, the former best friend, wife, and soulmate he lost to the emotional wounds he never healed.

Veilwood is no ordinary place. It listens. It remembers. It reveals.

As Denzel and Denise walk through its shifting paths, the forest manifests the echoes of their past, the argument that ended their marriage, the insecurities Denzel hid behind charm, the faith Denise leaned on when he couldn’t understand her, and the father-shaped void that drove Denzel into destructive patterns.

This is Denzel’s final chance to confront the trauma of growing up without a father, the toxic masculinity he inherited, and the emotional suppression that cost him the love he cherished most. For Denise, it is a test of compassion, faith, and the courage to hear the truth she waited a decade for.

With time running out, they must peel back layers of hurt and misunderstanding to uncover the truth behind their fractured relationship, and decide whether forgiveness is possible before Denzel’s final moment arrives.

This film is a meditation on love, loss, identity, and the healing power of truth.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

This film is deeply personal to me.

I wanted to explore the emotional impact of fatherlessness and the way unresolved childhood wounds can shape adult relationships. Denzel is a man who never learned how to express his pain. Denise is a woman who learned to survive hers through faith and optimism. Their story is a reflection of so many real people who carry unspoken trauma into their relationships.

By placing their reunion in a mystical forest, I wanted to create a space where emotions become physical, memories take shape, and the truth can no longer be avoided. Veilwood is the world we enter when we finally face ourselves. My hope is that this film encourages conversations about masculinity, mental health, forgiveness, and the courage it takes to heal, even when it comes years later.
