Empower Cindy Roper's Freedom and Mobility by Donating

My name is Kay Taylor. For many decades, I have been Cindy Roper's good friend. Cindy is a recently retired Communication professor at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas.

On March 25th, 2023, Cindy suffered a rare stroke in her spine, rendering her paralyzed from the waist down, which damaged her T8-10 region. Cindy's home was modified in order for her to function with help. At this point, she is in critical need of a modified van. Several of us are hoping that generous donors would help alleviate the greatly expensive cost of this vehicle. The van would allow Cindy to be mobile by driving herself. For example, Cindy is unable to attend her church in person, in addition to other regular activities.

At present, she has to plan any appointments or errands during the weekdays with the help of a paid driver who happens to have a modified van Cindy can access with her motorized wheelchair. Without a van, Cindy is unable to leave her home at all on weekends and during the week when her driver is unavailable. No longer can Cindy make plans to go anywhere without a great deal of planning ahead and many logistics. For example, she can't make a quick grocery store run, eat out, or just go see a movie, her sister, or a friend. The bus service for handicapped people is inconvenient. Their hours are very limited, and it never runs on Sundays, which has really hampered Cindy's ability to get to places she needs to go.

She has been trying to raise funds herself by selling her car. Her students at ACU raised some funds. However, it's still a steep climb to the goal Cindy needs to reach since the modified vans are incredibly expensive, not to mention the upkeep they require, especially with regards to the ramp. We pray that people will find a way to alleviate some of Cindy's burden by generously donating to her fund.
