Donate to Ease Jon's Journey with Terminal Illness

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

I’m reaching out with a heavy but hopeful heart to ask for your support for my 14-year-old nephew, Jon, who has been diagnosed with Lafora Disease, the rarest and most severe form of epilepsy. This terminal illness is stealing Jon’s vibrant spirit far too soon. Just last October, Jon was a healthy, happy kid dancing at his homecoming event. Now, he faces a rapid decline, needing a hospital bed at home, a wheelchair to move, and help with daily activities. He’s in the early stages of dementia, endures multiple seizures daily that impair his memory, thinking, and vision, and may soon require a feeding tube and tracheostomy. Lafora Disease will continue to rob Jon of his cognitive and motor abilities, eventually leading to a vegetative state, with his passing likely due to aspiration pneumonia or an unstoppable seizure.

Our family is heartbroken, but we’re determined to give Jon the best quality of life possible for as long as we have him. That’s why we’ve launched this GoFundMe to raise $60,000 to cover medical expenses not covered by insurance, to fulfill any final wishes or hopes Jon may have while creating special memories with family, as well as end-of-life care and memorial service expenses.
