Hi everyone,

My name is Catherine (Cathy) Bush and I have end stage kidney failure. The technical term for it is FSGS (Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis). I was diagnosed with this disease in 2019. Currently, I am on peritoneal dialysis, which is dialysis through my stomach. I have to do that every night.

Since the diagnosis, a lot of things have gone downhill. I continuously lose weight, am woozy/dizzy all of the time. I had to have parathyroid surgery as my parathyroid was developing too much insulin. They had to move a piece of my thyroid into my arm. After that, I had to have heart surgery because a growth was moving and the doctors were worried that it would be detrimental to my health. That was a very rough go.

Now, I am blind in one eye. I can't cook anymore by myself, nor can I walk by myself anymore. I have to be assisted everywhere I go. I have lost my independence. After seeing doctors to investigate, it was found that blood clots were being pushed through the nerves of my right eye, preventing oxygen from reaching out my eye. Unfortunately, there is no way to bring my vision back in that eye. Now, we are working with doctors to save my left eye and figure out what caused it.

This has been a very stressful, depressing, and scary 5 years. I can say that I have a great support system and I am extremely grateful for them. They care about me and try to keep me upbeat when I am feeling down. But they can only help so much. It costs to take care of me. I need gas money to go to my doctor's appointment. My ophthalmologist and hematologist are all the way in Athens, GA, which is over an hour away. I am struggling with buying food and just trying to do other things while I have the chance. We don't know what's going to happen with my eye, so I am trying to do everything I am able to do in case the worst happens. I am only on disability and receiving a small amount of money every month. My support system's help can only get me so far as they are struggling also. I am reaching out to see if there is anyone that can help me. It doesn't matter if it is only $1. I am in real need of assistance as not only will I use any funds collected, to visit the places I would like to visit, but I will also be using these funds to purchase groceries and pay my bills.
