On October 22, 2025, our hearts were shattered when we lost Basilio “Basil” Michael Trujillo. At just 16 years old, Basil had a heart full of love, a quick wit, and a personality that could light up the darkest day.

Basil loved baseball cards, the 49ers, anything sports, old cars, rock and roll, and Pink Floyd. He loved to laugh, to tease, and to make sure everyone was having a good day. He never wore a coat because, in his words, “it’s never cold outside.” His favorite colors were blue and purple, and he made life brighter just by being in it.

He was in the 10th grade, loved wood shop and world history, hated math, and adored his Spanish teacher. He was proud of himself when he passed tough classes and when he reached his goals. He was learning to drive, exploring who he was, and looking forward to his future.

Basil loved playing video games, going to the movies, and paddle boarding (even though he didn’t know how to swim!). He loved cooking and sharing his creations with the people he cared about. He loved his friends, his older sister Madisyn, and loved picking on his little cousin Leila just to make her laugh.

He was raised by his mother and father, who loved him deeply. At age six, he moved to the mountains with his dad, where they built a close bond and a lifetime of memories together. When his dad passed away suddenly from a heart attack in 2024, Basil’s world changed forever. He went to live with his aunt and uncle in Kiowa, who were granted guardianship and provided him with love and stability while he tried to heal.

Basil was in counseling and doing his best to work through his pain, but he was struggling more than anyone realized. Despite everything, he always put others first, making sure those around him were okay — even when he wasn’t.

Basil was the kind of person who left an impression everywhere he went — funny, stubborn, caring, and full of life. His absence leaves a hole that can never be filled.

This GoFundMe has been created to help his family with funeral and memorial expenses during this heartbreaking time. No one is ever prepared for a loss like this. Any donation — no matter the size — will help ease the burden and allow the family to focus on honoring Basil’s memory.

If you are unable to donate, please share this page and keep Basil’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Rest easy, Basil. You will be forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
