Please Help Fund Our New Fire Station!

Tax deductible
Will you please chip in to help give our town the Safety Facility it needs and one our EMTs and firefighters deserve?

·  The current New Boston Fire Department (NBFD) station was built in 1973 when there were about 1,600 residents in our rural New Hampshire town. The nine volunteer fire fighters at that time responded to around 15 calls a year. Today, the town has grown to over 6,000 residents, and as of December 13th, the NBFD has responded to 615 calls in 2021! Last year during Covid, they responded to 670; that’s 1.84 calls a day!

·   The town has grown, and our fire department has outgrown the current facility. As the video shows, the building is too small, has many structural challenges and doesn’t provide basics like showers (there is one toilet and one sink in the only bathroom in the building). Without decontamination facilities, our firefighters bring carcinogens and other harmful substances into their own homes.

 ·   The NBFD has 50 volunteer/call EMTs and firefighters (43 members and 7 recruits), one of the largest memberships of any rural fire department in the state! These men and women don’t hesitate to leave their warm beds and families in the middle of the night to respond to any emergency. Would you be willing to do this for $8.34 an hour? This rate is by far the lowest of 8 surrounding towns surveyed, and is only earned while actively on a call. Members put in many more hours in training, managing equipment, etc.

 ·   Although many members are dedicated to helping our town, it’s no surprise membership and participation are starting to decline. There is a high demand for firefighters and EMTs in New Hampshire, and without a decent facility to help recruit new members, we may not have enough people to respond when needed in the future. This, and the high volume of calls, will likely mean going to a per diem pay structure in the near future.

·   Traditionally in New Boston, plans for big projects are approved when some outside funding helps offset the cost, so we are hoping you will contribute to the cause! The funds raised will help build the actual structure and/or outfit a new fire station whenever one is approved by voters.

Could you please chip in any amount to help? Every dollar makes a difference and is much appreciated!

All money collected through this Go Fund Me is kept in a dedicated fund by the New Boston Fire Association, and is managed by a Certified Public Accountant.

Please feel free to message Frank Welton with any questions.

Thank you so much!
