DocuMamas: Raising Hope

Donation protected
Hi friends! My name is Raiya Al-Nsour, and I'm a Jordanian-American college student at the University of Virginia. This summer I  had the privilege of working with an organization called "Another Kind of Girl Collective," founded by Laura Doggett, which empowers Syrian girls living as refugees to share their stories through creative mediums. During my time with AKGC, I met some of the most remarkable, talented young women and I am lucky to call them friends.

Marah and Khaldiya, both of whom are filmakers and good friends of mine, are young mothers currently living as refugees in Za'atari Refugee Camp. Unfortunately, they are really struggling financially, and need your help. In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, Laura and I are hosting a fundraiser to support them by providing financial help with baby supplies such as diapers, clothes, and food. Though both Laura and I are hosting this fundraiser, Laura will be responsible for wiring the girls your generous donations.

To see Marah and Khaldiya's films and learn more about AKGC, you can check out this website:

"Founded in 2014 in response to the Syrian Refugee crisis, the Another Kind of Girl Collective (AKGC) equips teenage girls living as refugees with the creative and technical means to express their inner worlds and document their everyday lives – how it looks, feels and sounds from the ground, at the heart of their world."
