Hankie’s story:
My name is Hankie and I am in pain and need your help! I am only 18 months old and my life has been awful up until now. First off I found myself in a scary shelter and I was told I didn’t have much time left, which I didn’t understand as I am still a baby and I love people and dogs, so why was my life going to be cut short? Then something amazing happened, these rescue ladies from Just Paws Animal Rescue saw me and said “no way will this boy’s life end so soon,” so they took me out of the scary shelter and brought me to a safe place. Sounds wonderful right? WRONG! On my way here one of the drivers noticed I was limping and thought maybe because of the long drive I was a little stiff, but I was in pain and I wanted to show them what a brave boy I am. I went to a wonderful foster home but my foster mom was very concerned as after a couple of days I didn’t seem to be getting better. I was taken to a vet and they had this machine that took photos of my insides?? I know crazy right! I’m sharing these photos with you all so you can see that this is what I look like inside. (I know, I’m cuter on the outside) The photos told a different story, the source of my pain is not good. I have double hip dysplasia and hip subluxation. They said it’s because of bad breeding practices and likely genetic. Here’s where you all come in, I need help. There is a surgery I can have that will help me live a normal pain-free life, BUT, it is going to cost a lot of money……. many thousands of dollars!! It is called a double Femoral Head Osteotomy (sounds like something I could eat BOL) My rescue angels told me that I am so worth every penny of this, and that they are going to make this happen for me by having a fundraiser (I don’t know if this is fun but it has the word “fun” in it so maybe it is?). But then after my surgery I am going to have to go to a new foster home with some carpets and no, or the least minimal stairs to heal. They are looking for that home right now. Can you help me? Even a little? There is a wonderful family who have pledged to match every donation up to the total of $5000, so $10 will turn into $20, $50 will turn into $100, and this is amazing news for me and couldn’t come at a better time. I am told that we have amazing supporters who all care for animals, and that people will want to help me. I am so sorry that this has happened to me and I really don’t want to be a burden, so I will be on my best behavior and I will try to be very brave when surgery time comes (I hear it’s happening very soon).
