Sri Lanka Mental Health placement

Hello and welcome to my fundraising page! Thank you for taking the time to read my volunteer story!
This time next year ( June 2019-August 2019) I will be heading out to Sri Lanka to complete a 2 month mental health placement with SLV Global.
I have a year to raise £1700 for the placement costs which includes accommodation in the rural Sri Lankan community with a homestay family, food (also provided by the homestay family), as well as useful mental health resources such as healthcare costs for the service users.
Resources for those living with mental illness in Sri Lanka were scarce, SLV Global were therefore founded by Psychology graduates with the objective of providing maximum benefit to the Sri Lankan communities through mental health care and at the same time volunteers such as myself will gain highly valuable work experience.
The 8 weeks will consist of running projects like therapeutic practices that will differ each week, but all have a similar focus, which is to promote positive mental health among service users by boosting their confidence and self-esteem. These projects could range from makeshift classrooms in temples, to psychiatric facilities to meditation practices.
60% of a normal week will consist of the therapeutic practices and 40% will be teaching English to the service users and fellow Sri Lankan volunteers.
Being a Psychology student this will be a big investment in my future, and not only will it benefit me but most importantly your donations will be a massive help to those who are mentally vulnerable in Sri Lanka.
