Caring for Caleb

Donation protected
On Behalf of Adrienne and Caleb:

Dear Friends,

I know we all are busy giving our time, attention and resources to those things that are important in our lives. I try not to ask directly for people’s monetary help but in this case I am!

You see, two years ago, I met Adrienne Wilson at a PTSA meeting. She is a West High parent who has helped to organize the CRC (Career Resource Center). Adrienne is one of the most kind, giving and dedicated women I have met! She is dedicated to her God, her family and to helping the kids in her community. Adrienne gives back everything she receives and then some. Adrienne has four children; three of whom have been able to attend college on scholarship! Her fourth, Caleb, was on track to do the same. That is, until he was recently diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor.

In addition to her own children, she has taken in two foster daughters. Currently, they are being cared for by Adrienne’s friend who flew up from California.

Caleb’s condition requires that he go out of state for treatment. He is currently in Seattle awaiting surgery. Doctors will be flying in from California and Oregon to assist. His condition is very serious due to the location of the tumor. His surgery date had to be postponed because he suddenly became ill with a viral infection a few days ago. They believe it is because the hotel where they are staying is not as clean as it was marketed to be. Adrienne is trying to locate another, closer to the hospital but there is a conference going on and the ones she can afford are booked. The ones that are within her price range allow pets and she and Caleb are highly allergic.

Since Caleb is 17 years and 10 months, he no longer qualifies for services available to children. Adrienne is fortunate to have health insurance for Caleb, however it only pays for plane tickets and does not cover hotel accommodations and related expenses. I have called the Seattle Ronald McDonald House, hotels, VRBO owners and the like but I cannot find affordable accommodations close to the hospital where Caleb will receive his operation.

After doing some research, she may be able to get Caleb additional assistance but was informed that Caleb may only receive coverage if his tumor ends up being malignant. We don't want that!

I learned that Adrienne is currently on Leave Without Pay. Her employer is allowing her time off work using FMLA. She will not receive a paycheck until the end of November. She was in a car accident a year and a half ago (hit by a woman who was texting on her phone) and has been battling the insurance companies since then. Recently a family member had her car and flattened the two front tires and bent the rims. They are having to be special ordered and expedited to Alaska. Adrienne asks for nothing yet always gives.

Yes, I’m asking you to give some money to help a mother in need during this difficult and incredibly stressful time. I can’t imagine what she is experiencing and with any luck, I never will--none of us will.

I am going to try and organize a school fundraiser called “Caring for Caleb.” I will contact his coaches, teachers and friends to see if I can get them to rally behind the effort. I am also contacting members of her church, and members of her organization called “The Faithful Few.” As you can see, Adrienne has asked for no one for help.

Please feel free to pass this along to anyone who might be willing to assist. I appreciate each of you for considering this request and I know Adrienne and Caleb appreciate you too!
