On November 28, 2025, Cyclone Ditwah made landfall on the eastern coast of Sri Lanka, unleashing catastrophic flooding, landslides, and relentless rainfall that caused widespread devastation across the island. This disaster is now being recognized as one of the worst Sri Lanka has experienced in decades, surpassed only by the 2004 Tsunami that claimed nearly 300,000 lives. Tragically, Cyclone Ditwah has already taken more than 600 lives, with hundreds still missing and over 2 million people displaced from their homes.
This immense tragedy comes at an especially fragile time for the nation, which was only beginning to recover from the most severe economic crisis in its history, an unprecedented collapse that led to critical shortages of fuel, food, and medicine, ultimately resulting in national bankruptcy in 2020. Now, that hard-won recovery is once again in grave jeopardy.
As a small Sri Lankan community in Wisconsin, we have always come together to support our homeland during times of crisis. Many may remember our collective efforts to raise funds through GoFundMe following the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks. This time, however, the devastation is far more widespread, impacting communities across the entire country. In response, we have once again stepped forward by launching this GoFundMe campaign and reaching out to compassionate individuals and communities worldwide for support.
All funds raised will be sent directly to a Sri Lankan government entity to provide urgent humanitarian aid and essential relief to those most affected by this heartbreaking disaster.
Your generosity can make a profound difference in helping families rebuild their lives and restore hope. We sincerely ask that you stand with Sri Lanka during this critical time and offer your support in any way possible. Together, we can bring relief, compassion, and renewed hope to those who need it most.
