Hi, my name is Lauran Mayeaux, and I’m 21 years old. I was born with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita and I have no use of my extremities. Due to my disability, I use a power wheelchair 100% of the time. This makes it difficult to use any other vehicle than my own. In 2015 I was graciously gifted a handicap accessible van. Since receiving this van, it has seemed to undergo more problems than I can afford. The mobility conversion has broken four different times, the transmission has gone out multiple times, and the is a severe oil leak. These are just some of the issues I’m having. I have put tens of thousands of dollars into fixing this vehicle over the last few years but unfortunately it’s becoming beyond repair. Being in my early 20s and having my first job means that accessible transportation is extremely important in my life. Not only that, it’s important that I’m able to get to doctors appointments as needed in order to keep up with my health.
