Disabled Veteran Seeks help with legal issue.

Disabled Veteran needs help separating herself and her one year old son from abusive boyfriend.

I write this request on behalf of my niece (K.L.) who has fallen on a truly difficult situation.  She has been court ordered to return to and remain in Nevada until the court can determine custody of her one-year old son.  She had to quit her job here on the east coast in Rhode Island, pack her son's clothing and crib and return to Nevada.  There in Nevada she has no job, no home, and no family to help support her.

K.L. is a United States Navy Veteran and has endured many hardships and disabilities as a result of her service in the military.  During her time in Afghanistan, she met an American male and the two quickly developed a friendship.  Once K.L. finished her 11 years in service she moved to Nevada to develop a relationship with whom she thought was her best friend. He owned a home and property in Nevada and wanted K.L. to take up residence there so the two could continue to build a life together.  The two lived in the home and last year gave birth to son.

Episodes of domestic violence began slowly at first and K.L. thought she could manage the situation. Over the next few years the episodes increased in frequency and degree of injury. On father's day (2019), Just prior to their son turning one, a significant episode of domestic violence occurred while their child was in the house. K.L. then knew she must flee and file assault charges against him. A protection (no contact) order was issued.

With no family or supportive friends in Nevada, she returned to her parent's home on the east coast.  Her boyfriend was arrested and when set free was ordered to release all of K.L.'s property.  K.L. hired a moving truck to package and ship her belongings and her son's belongings.  She established meaningful employment here on the east coast and located a pediatrician for her son's medical needs.

One month later she was notified that the court of Nevada had ordered her to return with the child.  The court ordered visitations between father and son.  We were shocked.  On the one hand there is a no contact order (keeping K.L. safe from further injury), and on the other hand she must make visitations possible.

K.L. is a woman of great character and was able to follow the laws.  In an effort to help her remain faithful to the laws, I accompanied her to Nevada and stayed there for one month helping to facilitating the visits between father and son.  At the end of the month, her father replaced me in Nevada as the court date was approaching and he would be called to testify.

As expected, the court granted a motion to extend the date and now K.L. is forced to remain there even longer.  She has a safe and clean room to stay in, but the cost of a lawyer and her housing and food are draining her life savings.  Her son's father is unable to assist in these expenses because he doesn't make enough money.  She may be forced to remain there for another few months.

What I am hoping for is the kindness of everyone to help support her.  She needs about $500.00 each week for her room and living expenses.  If you are a veteran or have been hurt by domestic violence and are not able to help her financially, then please at least tell others about K.L.'s situation.  Or please link this page to your facebook page.  Anything you can do to help is greatly appreciated.  Every effort will be made to return all unused funds.

Thanks so much.
