Dio's fight against Leukemia
Spende geschützt
In 2015, Dio started his battle with Pre B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the young age of 2 years old. This is a day that his parents will never forget. What seemed like a simple flu ended up being a life changing disease. They put him under anesthesia, to get intrathecal lumbar puncture chemotherapy treatment. Moving forward, Dio received countless chemotherapy treatments and fought the battle for 3 years straight. After three long years, he finally won his battle with cancer. But unfortunately the battle wasn't over for this sweet boy and the cancer came back after 2 years.
In May of 2019, his parents brought him in for his routine checkup and lab work. When the Doctor came back in the room he had some devastating news, Dio relapsed. Not only has the cancer come back, but it came back at full force and this time he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. They admitted him right away and started chemotherapy treatments. They had to attack it even harder this time due to how aggressive it came back. He also had to have testicular surgery to move one out of the way so that the other one would not be affected with radiation treatments in hope that he would be able to possibly have kids one day. It took a huge toll on Dio's mind and body. He got severely burned from all the radiation and developed an infection and he ended up having to stay in the hospital for an additional 2 months for that. For 2 years straight of going through treatments, Diovonni was not giving up and successfully went into remission. He was so proud and happy that he WON this battle once again.
Only to be disappointed and discouraged, we got the heartbreaking news that Diovonni has relapsed once again and the leukemia came back for the 3rd time. They performed a bone marrow biopsy and a testicular biopsy to determine that his leukemia is back and unfortunately it came back showing it’s in his right testicle this time and blood. So now he has to do radiation again and the doctors said he will most likely never be able to have kids. This time around, Dio will endure chemotherapy treatments for 3 months straight. Once a week, he will get general anesthesia to have chemotherapy through his spine, then straight to the infusion center to get chemotherapy through his PIC line in his arm. He will have to have medication that lasts for 28 days straight. He will wear a small book bag for 28 days at home where he gets constant medication that kills the B Cells and is supposed to be effective in conjunction with his chemotherapy treatments. The final thing Dio has to endure in 3 months is a bone marrow transplant and will have to stay in the hospital for a full 30 days during this time.
As you can imagine the heartbreak his parents are enduring right now and the medical bills they face. We are asking for donations to help cover their overhead so they can focus on taking care of their little boy. He's in so much pain and needs his mom and dad more than ever right now. We can't thank you enough for all the prayers and support. Dio is a fighter and will win this battle.
