Devonnte's Handicapped Van

Donation protected
My 13-year-old son Devonnte is a well-mannered, shy and sweet young man who was diagnosed with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive disease with a limited life expectancy, at just 6 years old. Due to his condition, he is completely dependent on a large 265lb power wheelchair and I cannot transport him in my car, so we are left isolated and confined to our home. Transportation is the largest barrier to providing my son with the highest quality of life possible. I am trying to raise $40,000 to purchase a handicap-accessible van to make this dream a reality.

There are many things Devonnte would love to experience: Comic Cons, trips to the mall, festivals in the summer - activities that many teenagers enjoy without giving it a second thought. My family is a significant source of emotional support, but we are unable to visit them. His school offers extra-curricular activities which would help with his social isolation and broaden his horizons, but I am unable to transport him by myself so without school bus transportation this is simply not an option.

Tragically, Devonnte was only 2 years old when his father passed away and I am a single parent. As the disease has progressed, he’s been completely wheelchair-bound since he was just 8 years old. As you can imagine, I am unable to work full-time because Devonnte requires round the clock care, and I am his sole provider as a single parent.

It is my dream to give my son all the wonderful and important opportunities life has to offer, and I am asking for your generosity to please help me make this possible. Thank you so much for your support in our journey.
