Au Pair to the Netherands

Hallo iedereen!
My name is Sydney Hayner and I am currently in my last year of high school. For starters, some of you know that I did an exchange to Barcelona, Spain for two months over the summer with Rotary International Youth Exchange and wow was that an experience! To say the least, I have caught the travel bug. If you haven't heard of what an au pair is, it's pretty much a nanny that goes overseas and sometimes can stay within their home country. I am going through an agency called GeoVisions. You take care of your host families kids for 30 hours (max) a week and in return you get free housing and food. I decided to become an au pair because I love kids, and it would teach me a better sense of what responsibility really is. I want to learn more about myself and what it truley means to be a provider. Now, why the Netherlands? Isn't it cold? Why yes, yes it is. I don't mind the cold, infact I prefer it over the TEXAS HEAT! I have been studying dutch for a bit of time now and The Netherlands is a beautiful country and centrally located for easy travels and it has holdidays and traditions like no other country. And lastely, if I am being brutally honest here, it was the cheapest country to go to as far as application fees and medical/dental insurance. I will be going for one year. June 2015-May 2016. I will be enrolled into a language course to improve and learn better dutch and I will have some time off to travel. I will be very very busy with all of this, and it's a huge challenge I am going to face. Being homesick, getting lonely, having my emotions run high and low, and adjusting to a new lifestyle are just a few things that will be tough. But with all challenges, there are advances. I will get to learn about myself, my kids that I will take care of, a new way of life, see things with my own eyes and of course TRAVEL! Everything factors into an experience, good and bad!
What I am asking of you is to help me reach my goal, even a dollar helps out. Even if you cannot donate, moral support is just as meaningful! $1,800.00 goes to my flight and $146.00 goes towards my application fee with GeoVisions (the agency making this all possible!) I am accepting offline donations as well, if you don't want to use the site. Every single dollar counts. I am so grateful to be given this oppurtunity!
