Hey Friends and Family!
This upcoming Spring Break I am hoping to serve and provide dental care for the children of San Raymundo, Guatemala! The Lord has given me a heart for dental missions and now with a year+ of dental school under my belt, I'm hoping to provide these beautiful kiddos with dental treatment that they desperately need. In addition to treatment, our team will be providing oral health education and telling them about this guy named Jesus who loves them SO MUCH!
I was blessed to be able to attend this trip last year with a group of over 60 people, comprised of dentists, dental students, dental hygiene students, and various friends and family members. I was mentored by some truly amazing dentists who took time out of their lives and away from their patients because they felt called to serve and to teach. We spent the week growing in our faith and learning about dentistry in the dental mission field and I am so grateful that I was able to spend so much time with like-minded students who love Christ and also have a desire to serve.
Under the guidance of the dentists, we were able to see over 700 patients, mainly children, during the week. We began seeing patients most days at 8 am and continued until 5 or 6, only taking quick lunch breaks and often working through lunch or past closing time to finish our treatment. I can tell you with complete sincerity that I had no idea how much this trip would reaffirm my desire to practice dentistry and my heart for dental missions. The children we saw were so beautiful, loving and grateful. To be able to relieve their pain and give them the dental treatment they so badly need was one of the most gratifying things I have ever done.
